Traveling is the soul’s way of discovering new places, meeting new people, and experiencing new cultures. There are moments when we confuse travel planning with tightrope walking as we try to cram all we can do into too few days. From exploring the vibrant streets of a foreign city to lounging on a beach paradise, planning travel can be daunting. The success of a trip is majorly dependent on one’s ability to plan it right. In this blog post, we will share with you the three rules to follow when planning your next trip: Stay, Explore, and Stick to Your Itinerary.

Rule 1: Never Stay Less Than 3 Nights in a given location

Whenever you plan to visit a new city, town, or even small villages, staying at least three nights per location is the rule. This way, you can get to immerse yourself in the location’s culture, cuisine, and language rather than checking out the touristy sites at break-neck speed. Spending three or more nights in a location gives you enough time to stroll around town and get a feel for the place. Whether it’s relaxing by the beach, hiking a mountain, or enjoying a new culture, it takes time to acclimate and see what makes a place worth visiting.

Rule 2: Leave time to be spontaneous

If you want to know a city’s top attractions, don’t rely solely on internet research and guidebooks. Instead, ask locals for suggestions and put them into action. Leave space in your itinerary for unplanned but exciting activities. Such activities could range from dining at a fantastic restaurant you discovered on your way down a side street or experiencing an unexpected festival or show. When you leave enough time to be spontaneous, you give locals a chance to lead the way and share hidden gems with you—a great way to experience the locals’ culture and meet new people.

Rule 3: Stick to Your Itinerary

When you have your itinerary ready, it’s best not to mess with it. Travel is riddled with unpredictability; Weather can suddenly change, flights canceled, or a preferred restaurant unexpectedly closed. A small deviation is okay, but it’s essential you remain flexible if it is only a minor change and won’t significantly affect the rest of your travel plan. But once your itinerary is underway, it’s best to stick to it as changing plans can be stressful and expensive.

Travel planning is not always a breeze, but with these three critical rules, you can start your journey on the right foot. Simple things like spending a minimum of three nights per location, leaving room for spontaneity, and sticking to your itinerary will not only make your trip more enjoyable, but it will also create long-lasting memories. Happy travels!
